Cuban-Inspired Restaurant to Replace Flavio’s on Main in Downtown Sarasota

Downtown Sarasota is welcoming a new Cuban-inspired restaurant at 1766 Main St., taking over the space previously occupied by Flavio’s on Main. Owner Flavio Cristofoli found managing both his downtown and Siesta Key locations too challenging due to staffing issues.

Flavio’s Brick Oven and Bar on Siesta Key continues to thrive, boasting 33 years of success. Cristofoli has leased the Main Street property to Cuba 1958, a spinoff of New Jersey’s 1958 Cuban Cuisine.

Owner Daniel Jimenez, whose family emigrated from Cuba in 1968, aims to bring the charm of pre-Castro Cuba to Sarasota. After moving to Bradenton two years ago, Jimenez was inspired by the beauty of Lido Key and St. Armands to open the new restaurant.

Jimenez promises an authentic, fine-dining Cuban experience with “Grandma’s” cooking. He will serve as general manager, with his longtime chef, also from Cuba, on staff. Renovations are underway, and the restaurant aims to open by mid-June.
