Marie Selby Botanical Gardens: A TIME-Honored Destination

TIME magazine has unveiled its annual list of the 100 “World’s Greatest Places”—a prestigious collection of must-see locations for travelers—and I’m thrilled to share that our very own Marie Selby Botanical Gardens has made the cut!

The esteemed TIME list is divided into two categories: places to stay and places to visit. Among the 50 places to visit, Selby Gardens stands out as one of only eight destinations in the United States, the sole representative from Florida in its category, and the only botanical garden to be featured.

Writer Terry Ward highlighted the gardens’ revitalized downtown Sarasota campus, noting its distinction as the world’s first net-positive-energy botanical garden, thanks to a 57,000-square-foot solar array. Ward also praised Selby’s new welcome center, the Green Orchid restaurant with its stunning rooftop gardens, and, of course, the gardens’ rich collection of plants and orchids.

Ward didn’t stop there—he lauded Sarasota itself, remarking that the city “stands out on Florida’s cultural circuit” and giving a special mention to The Ringling and Sarasota Art Museum.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens’ inclusion in this list is a testament to its exceptional beauty, innovation, and cultural significance. Whether you’re a local or planning a visit, the gardens offer an unparalleled experience that deserves to be celebrated.
