Reviving Elegance: Sarasota's Historic Building Transforms into Sugar Champagne Bar

Downtown Sarasota is on the brink of a glamorous revival as a historic building dating back to 1920 undergoes a lavish transformation into Sugar Champagne Bar. Set to open its doors later this year, this upscale establishment promises an ambiance steeped in the opulence of Old Regency Florida, complete with a pink piano, plush velvet furnishings, sparkling chandeliers, and stylish teal and coral accents. Adding to the allure, a bartender donning a classic tuxedo will serve as the epitome of sophistication in this intimate lounge spanning roughly 1,200 square feet.

Located on the corner of South Pineapple and South Lemon avenues, adjacent to The Mark condo building and Paul N. Thorpe Jr. Park, this historic gem was formerly home to Malbi Décor before being acquired by current owner Ronnie Shugar in 2021. With an initial investment of $1.8 million, Shugar has poured an additional $2.2 million into the project, ensuring that Sugar Champagne Bar becomes a beacon of elegance in the Sarasota landscape. Malbi Décor’s relocation to North Osprey Avenue has paved the way for this new chapter of sophistication and luxury, promising an unforgettable experience for locals and visitors alike.

Owner Ronnie Shugar envisions Sugar Champagne Bar as an iconic destination, drawing guests to experience the museum, the Ringling Bridge, and the allure of the “pink Champagne bar.” With its sumptuous décor and attention to detail, the space promises to captivate visitors and leave them in awe. Shugar’s dedication to creating memorable spaces is evident, as seen in his former downtown condo featuring a stunning floor-to-ceiling backlit agate wall, and a dramatic piano delivery by crane. Get ready to be transported to a world of glamour and refinement at Sugar Champagne Bar, where every sip is an invitation to indulge in the finer things in life.
