Sarasota Bradenton International Airport Closes After Roof Damage from Hurricane Milton

Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) announced today that its roof over Concourse B was completely destroyed during Hurricane Milton. This section of the roof covers the security screening checkpoint and all 13 gate hold rooms, forcing the airport to close for commercial-service flights until Wednesday, October 16, at 9 a.m.

SRQ is working with recovery teams to install a temporary roof over the 76,000-square-foot area before permanent repairs can be made. In addition to replacing the roof, crews are conducting extensive cleanup and remediation due to water damage in the gate areas. The storm also left significant roof debris scattered across the aircraft ramp, which must be cleared to ensure the safety of planes and passengers.

While commercial flights are grounded, the airport has made some services available. Rental car counters reopened today at noon in the baggage claim area, though availability varies by company. Airport parking lots are also open for individuals needing access to their vehicles.

For general aviation flights, the airfield reopened today at noon, although fuel services remain unavailable.

As SRQ continues its recovery efforts, the airport remains focused on passenger safety and aims to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
