Sarasota Ranks No. 4 on Best Places to Retire List

Sarasota has reclaimed its spot as one of the nation’s top retirement destinations, ranking No. 4 in U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of the best places to retire. The rankings evaluate 150 cities based on happiness, affordability, health care, desirability, taxes, and job market, capturing what retirees value most.

While Sarasota saw a dip in previous years due to soaring real estate prices, a shift in methodology this year—emphasizing happiness and fulfillment over affordability—boosted the city’s score. Sarasota also landed at No. 11 in the best places to live, showcasing its growing appeal to both retirees and younger residents.

However, housing costs remain a challenge. The median price for Sarasota condos is $410,000, and single-family homes average $515,000—well above the national median. Despite these costs, Sarasota continues to shine with its vibrant lifestyle, robust health care options, and coastal desirability, solidifying its allure for those seeking a fulfilling retirement.

Florida as a whole dominated the rankings, with Naples taking the top spot and several other cities placing in the top 25. Sarasota’s blend of charm, amenities, and sunshine keeps it a standout in the Sunshine State.
